YouTube: Let the Fans do the Work

Recently a lot of bands have been putting up contests on YouTube for their fans to make music videos for them. Honestly, this is lazy. Anyone can take a webcam and sing along to their favorite song (normally with teribble sound quality). Now this does help small up-and-coming bands get their name out and have some free publicity. I have seen some established bands try and do this, and no offense, but leave this to the younger crowd to do. Now one thing that Ima Robot did right was to have criteria from the video makers to follow. I think if you the fans a chance to make a video but make it a bit more challenging, Ima Robot required certain elements in their video. Not only does having these contests allow the fans to really get into the music, but it also gives a good deal of free publicity. All I ask is that artist use this responsibly.
